A North Staffordshire Task Force was established in January
2000 initiated by Secretary of State for Trade and Industry,
Stephen Byers in response to acute economic challenges facing
the sub-region. The Task Force responded to concerns about
major job-losses in the area with a report in spring 2000

With
the work of this Task Force complete a new, representative
body was formed in July 2000 and took up the challenge. North
Staffordshire Partnership is the strategic regeneration partnership
for the sub-region, joining together an area defined by the
administrative boundaries of the City of Stoke-on-Trent and
districts of Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire Moorlands
and Stafford. The partnership currently includes over 80 partner
organisations from the public, private and community sectors
and will work to become fully representative of the diverse
communities of interest that constitute North Staffordshire.
A proactive process of partnership development is well underway,
providing a strategic framework, structure and leadership.
The partnership has appointed a Director and established a
Contact Group to co-ordinate regeneration actions across the
area.
